  • Peanut oil, for frying
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp De La Viuda® Original Hot Sauce
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 large waffles, toasted and halved
  • Salt and pepper

Hot Honey

  • 1 tbsp De La Viuda® Original Hot Sauce
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Add 1-inch peanut oil into a deep cast iron dutch oven. Set over medium-high heat. Meanwhile, set up a dredging station. In a shallow bowl combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt and pepper. In a second bowl combine buttermilk, (1) tbsp De La Viuda® Original Hot Sauce and egg. Whisk until combined.
  2. Season the chicken thighs with salt and pepper. Dredge each thigh in the dry mixture then into the buttermilk and then into the dry again. Set aside.
  3. Allow the oil temperature reaches 360°F to 375°F. If you don’t have a thermometer, drop a piece of flour mixture into the pan. It should instantly sizzle but not burn.
  4. Gently drop the chicken thighs into the hot oil in batches and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Meanwhile prepare the hot honey. In a small bowl combine (1) tbsp De La Viuda® Original Hot Sauce, honey, smoked paprika and garlic powder.
  6. When the chicken is cooked, dunk the chicken into the hot honey. Serve in between two waffle quarters.
