  • 1 lb fresh chorizo or spicy sausage
  • 6 slices bacon, diced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 8 cups Italian bread loaf, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 2 tsp De La Viuda® Green Pepper Hot Sauce, plus more for serving
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ⅛ tsp pepper
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend
  • 1 tbsp fresh cilantro
  • Serve with guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cook chorizo in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring until it crumbles and is no longer pink. Drain and set aside.
  3. Using the same skillet, add bacon and cook until crisp. Remove and drain on a paper towel. Drain bacon grease, reserving 1 tbsp. Add onion and bell pepper to the pan and sauté over medium heat for 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
  4. Transfer chorizo, bacon, peppers and onions to a greased 13 x 9 baking dish. Fold in bread cubes.
  5. In a large bowl, combine eggs, half and half, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Pour egg mixture over the bread cubes evenly. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes or until golden brown and the center is set. Sprinkle with cheese and cilantro and bake 5 minutes longer. Serve with guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo and pickled jalapeños, if desired.
